Artist Statement

I am an ideas person. My work is experimental, playful and whimsical. I work mainly in acrylics and mixed media. My love of humor is evident in the open mouth figures in my paintings that could be laughing or screaming, walking a fine line between sanity and insanity. Also my love of laughter is apparent in my "Emu" paintings that portray the seeming madness of the bird and at the same time its inherent comedy.

I am inspired by many things; my children, daydreams, happy accidents, the responses to my artwork, and laughter. My British background has provided me with a profound appreciation of comedy and irony. "Always look on the bright side of life" is the Connolly philosophy.

I am not interested in "pretty paintings". I prefer the edge provided by the juxtaposition of sanity and insanity that produces a smile from the viewer.

My creative process relies on a constant stream of ideas and working on multiple images. From this dynamic environment my paintings emerge
